About National Beer Day

According to the National Day Calendar, National Beer Day is celebrated annually on April 7th, honoring beer as the third most popular drink in the world after water and tea. With roots possibly dating back to 9500 BC, beer holds a significant place in human history, documented in ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia and Egypt. Whether enjoying a porter, Belgian ale, or any other variety, beer enthusiasts worldwide raise their glasses in gratitude to local brewers. The craft beer industry's innovation continues to expand choices, attracting new beer drinkers daily.

National Beer Day was founded by Justin Smith, a Richmond, Virginia Craft Beer Examiner, and his friend Mike Connolly from Liverpool, England. National Beer Day honors the day in 1933 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act, marking the beginning of the end of Prohibition. This legislation allowed for the legal production and sale of beer with an alcohol content below 4.0% by volume. This was welcomed by beer enthusiasts because they were able to purchase beer legally for the first time in 13 years.

So, on April 7th, let's raise our mugs in gratitude to the brewers, past and present, who have crafted the beers we know and love. Whether you're enjoying a pint at your local brewery or savoring a cold one with friends, National Beer Day is a time to appreciate the simple pleasures of good company and great beer. Cheers!

Case Study: Samuel Adams Brewery

Background:

According to Samuel Adams Brewery, the story of the passionate brewers at Boston Beer Company began with their founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the very first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen, using a recipe passed down from his great-great-grandfather. Koch had discovered the recipe in his father's attic in 1984 and was inspired to bring the delicious and flavorful beer to the masses.

Jim believed that American beer drinkers deserved a better beer option than what was available at the time. Over the last 15 years, Boston Beer Company has produced 111 million cases, welcomed 1.9 million visitors to its properties, and has been the top supplier of beer in the Tamarron Beer Supplier Performance Survey 13 times.

In 2017, the Samuel Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain project began and underwent a transformative project that aimed to breathe new life into its historic walls. The project involved converting raw space into retail housing and mixed-use areas, bringing a fresh perspective to the centuries-old mill complex. Our client, the JPNDC (Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corp.) needed accurate documentation to move forward with their project.

Existing Conditions was selected to work on this historic project and completed this project in multiple phases over three years, working with the timeline of our client. With a proven track record and extensive portfolio of delivering accurate data to the best building industry professionals across the nation, Existing Conditions was the ideal partner to bring onto this unique project.

The solution for bringing Existing Conditions into the project was to deploy the technology and expertise necessary to provide all stakeholders with the situational awareness they need to make intelligent decisions. Leveraging state-of-the-art reality capture tools such as 3D laser scanning technology, our team documented the existing conditions of the space, delivering accurate 3D point cloud data, floor plans, and exterior elevations. This detailed information served as a crucial foundation for architects and owners, empowering them to gain a comprehensive understanding of the space's potential and make informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

“One of the things that we love the most about working in breweries is the opportunity to witness firsthand the manufacturing process of a product that we all enjoy consuming. It's truly fascinating to observe how it's made and how it eventually reaches the market. We find it interesting to assist in any way we can” Kurt Yeghian, Founder & CEO.

Our ongoing partnership with the JPNDC shows our dedication to supporting local communities and fostering economic growth. By delivering reliable data, we enable breweries like Samuel Adams to thrive and continue crafting exceptional beers that bring people together in celebration, not just on National Beer Day, but every day.
